We are celebrating Migratory Bird Month by learning about the Rufa Red Knot. This small bird is a powerhouse. They typically fly nearly 10,000 miles each way on their migration path from the southernmost tip of South America to the Artic Circle. One important stopover for them is Long Island, where they feast on horseshoe crab eggs and mollusks before completing their long journey. Learn about conservation efforts made for this threatened species as you make your own flapping bird craft to take home.
